Cathode blocks are critical materials used in the production of primary aluminium. They are designed and manufactured to withstand elevated temperatures in an aggressive electro-chemical environment.
There are three main types of cathode block; carbon cathode blocks, semi-graphite cathode blocks and graphite cathode blocks. The blocks are produced in a vibration-moulding machine or an extrusion die process. The end product features compact construction, high strength, heat resistance, sodium corrosion resistance and a low heat expansion coefficient.
